Episode 38 – Shakedown: Hawaii with Mat Creamer

Episode 38 – Shakedown: Hawaii with Mat Creamer

Grit your teeth as you plow through innocent bystanders, hold up stores for insurance protection, and burn forests down with your flamethrower…it’s your world in Shakedown Hawaii. The successor to Retro City Rampage had a lot to live up to, and thankfully it doesn’t suffer from sequelitis, as it’s one of the best indie games this year. Take on the role of an aging 1980’s CEO, or his spoiled rotten to the core son, and even a hired mercenary to do the dirty work. All three are at your disposal here as you steal cars, burn down parking lots, and crush anything in your way: including pesky consumer rights! Take on the role of CEO as you figure out the best way to ruin customer’s lives and make cash doing it. Despite the slimy premise, the game is tons of fun and backed by an incredible 80s synthwave soundtrack by Norrin Radd aka Matt Creamer. Matt takes us through the ups and downs he faced getting the official soundtrack released, and answers all the hard-hitting questions all while providing fantastic insight into his compositions.
The XVGM Radio guys are super thankful to VBlank Games and Matt Creamer for hooking us up with some giveaway codes! Exclusive to Patrons, you’ll be able to possibly win either a digital copy of the game (PS4/Switch options only) or the digital soundtrack for free! Multiple chances to win, and all you’ve got to do is share this episode on some form of social media (or just join our Discord) AND most importantly be a Patron tier of $1 or more! Thanks again to Brian Provinciano and Matt Creamer for the codes! You must be signed up by November 30th! We’ll announce the winners on the December 2019 Live Show and will reach out to the winners via Patreon!

Episode 36 – Castlevania Oddities

Castlevania music has a special place in our hearts. But what about the wacky, wild world of Castlevania cameos, bizarre ports and side story games and other ‘Vania obscurities? Mike and Justin take the listener on a bumpy hayride past Dracula’s castle, and into his backyard to listen to some of the stranger versions of mainline games in the Castlevania franchise. From mobile to only in the arcade and even multiplayer preferred, the series has certainly had its ups and downs but the tunes have mostly always been the best kind of wall meat: tough to find, yet fully satisfying! So, grab your garlic water and rave sticks and join XVGM Radio as they explore these weird and wacky Castlevania remixes…with a few originals to boot!

Mike and Justin Hosted their first ever panel together, and they did it at Retro World Expo in Hartford, CT on September 28th, 2019! The guys wanted to do something to attract a big audience, and what better way to do that then to have the ultimate retro battle when it comes to VGM: Super NES versus Sega Genesis! After cultivating a wide range of tunage, the guys got the audience to participate in a cheering contest to determine which song was liked better. The categories of Best comparison, Capabilities, and a favorite from each of the guys for every console.

We’d like to take this time to apologize for the audio snafus. This episode won’t sound like our normal higher quality content, and it’s mostly due to some recording errors. However, we were able to preserve the audio thanks to another format we recorded in, so please excuse the occasional issues which may pop up.

Episode 33 – Celebrating 20 Years of Sega Dreamcast Music

Everyone join in now: Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Happy Biiirtthhhdaayyyy dear Sega Dreamcast, Happy Birthday to you! The Sega Dreamcast is largely considered to be Sega’s swansong and the final console to focus on arcade-based-ports to home-grown video games. Utilizing the NAOMI hardware, Sega was able to easily port games from the arcade to the console market. Sadly, the Dreamcast was Sega’s final original console, released this day 20 years ago on September 9th, 1999, also known as 9-9-99. It’s been 20 years since the console released in North America with a complete onslaught of titles, so today we thought we’d explore the North American side of the console’s video game music. Justin and Mike have picked tons of fantastic music to take you for a ride throughout this celebration. So, roll down your windows, slick those frosted tips back, grab your chain wallet and put on your jeans with the enormous pant legs. Turn the nu-metal off for a second, hit pause on your VHS of the International Man of Mystery and let’s boogie to some Sega Dreamcast bangers!

After listening to this episode, be sure to check out Rhythm & Pixels Podcast, as we have joined forces with them to do a mass celebration of Dreamcast tunes. Check them out at: https://rhythmandpixels.com/

We’d love to hear what you thought about our Dreamcast selections! What was your favorite track? What songs were missing that you would like to showcase yourself? Shoot us an email at XVGMRadio@gmail.com or join in on the discussion at: www.facebook.com/groups/XVGMradio

Episode 32 – Summer Jamz with KVGM – The Last Wave

Episode 32 – Summer Jamz with KVGM – The Last Wave

Do you hear that sound? Can you feel it? The cool ocean breeze in your hair, the salt on your tongue. But wait…doesn’t this sound familiar? It’s because it’s the opening line in our guest’s mantra for his own show: KVGM Radio! That’s right! XVGM and KVGM our joining stations for a special summer jams(z) episode with KVGM net-jockey, Hammock a.k.a. Brennan. Sit back and relax or pull back the sun roof and drive around town bumping some of the most chillest and illest of summer tunes. From the lighthearted to the funky fresh, these songs will get the head bobbin’ and the drinks flowing. Make ours an Arnold Palmtree.

Special thanks to our pal Brennan for stopping by the show! If you like what you heard today, Hammock does a similar show on KVGM Radio!
